In 15th December 2015 the European Parliament approved a package of proposals governing EU trademark law. The changes include reforms to Community Trade Mark Regulation (CTMR) and the creation of a new Trade Mark Directive.
The reforms to the governance of EU trademarks aim to increase legal certainty and clarity for businesses looking to register and enforce their trademarks in Europe. The measures will bring national laws in Member States closer together and align practice on national trademarks in relation to the EU-wide trademark.
Cyprus, as a member state of the EU and part of the negotiations for these reforms, welcomes the changes as they will make the process easier, cheaper and clearer for businesses to use.
